The right wing in this country went crazy with the James O'Keefe video of him and his girlfriend dressed as a pimp and a whore showed up and they claimed that employees of ACORN were going to help them set up a child prostitution ring. The only problem with their claims, they were all lies. The really sad part is that the lies and the resultant media frenzy actually succeeded in driving ACORN out of business.

This is a long-standing organization that helped poor people in this country, so it's a really sad event that ACORN was forced to declare bankruptcy and close its doors, especially when the allegations that caused this were completely fabricated by low life James O'Keefe and helped along by Fox "News" and other right wing media organizations.

Porn star, Stormy Daniels says the recent scandal that officials of the RNC have been frequenting lesbian bondage sex clubs pushed her over the edge to run as a Republican for the Senate seat currently occupied by David Vitter, who admitted to have been a customer of the D.C. Madame.

"While most of the reaction to an RNC-funded outing at a Los Angeles bondage-themed nightclub in February has been critical, it has won the GOP at least one supporter -- a porn star.

Stormy Daniels, an adult movie actor and potential candidate for U.S. Senate in Louisinia, has apparently decided -- perhaps satirically -- to renounce the Democratic Party and become a Republican.

In a press release on Tuesday, Daniels proudly embraced the Republican Party.

"While this decision has not been an easy one, recent events regarding Republican National Committee fundraising at Voyeur, an LA based lesbian bondage themed nightclub finally tipped the scales," Daniels said.

Daniels, who first floated the idea of running against Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) after news broke that he had been linked to the high-profile prostitution ring run by the "D.C. Madam," said she sees the RNC-funded nightclub outing as a sign that the GOP's values now best match her own.

"As I have said for well over a year, it is time that our government and our tax policy begin rewarding entrepreneurship and creativity again. It is time again to inspire positive risks and out-of-the-box thinking in the interest of growing a strong economy and a strong America," Daniels said. "For me, this spirit can be summed up in the RNC's investment of donor funds at Voyeur.

"I know from experience that a mere $1900 outlay at a club with the reputation of Voyeur is a clear indication of a frugal investment with a keen eye toward maximum return," Daniels added."

I really don't understand the Republican mind. These numbers are alarming, 24% of Republicans actually think President Obama is the anti-Christ. 67% of Republicans think President Obama is a socialist, 57% say he's a Muslim, 45% responded he wasn't born in the United States, 38% say he's doing things Hitler would have done.

Put this together with the types of things that Sarah Palin is doing on her Facebook page, using cross hairs on a map to indicate which Democrats she thinks Republicans should "target" and you have a disgusting showing of lack of political savvy and sensitivity for the times we live in, especially when you couple this with the actual violence that is being incited at Fox News.

This country has been though one of its most divisive periods in history. Probably not since the civil rights marches in the 60's, the health care debate brought out the worst in America. When the opponents of health care came down to the end, instead of admitting defeat, the Republicans (Tea Party) they yelled racial epithets at African American Congressmen and an openly gay Congressman. And no one in the Republican party denounced these actions, not one.

If I were a Republican/Teabagger, I'd be ashamed of these people and call them out for their actions. But not this group of Republicans. They actually encourage this kind of behavior. It will be their downfall and ruination. America is at its heart a nation of good, ethical, moral people. The fear mongering of the tea party and their friends in the Republican party will destroy their once proud, sensible party.

Wow, I couldn't stay up to night, but I just read that health care reform has finally passed through the House or Representatives. No, it's not perfect, but it will save lives and it will save money. Why and how did it happen? It finally happened because of leadership by President Obama and because of the grass roots in America. It was about real democracy, people that cared about other people and taking to the streets.

It means good triumphed over evil. Truth triumphed over lies. Commonsense won out over hysteria. Hurray for America. We can still get hard things done.

Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.

It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for today’s expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. But:

(1) It’s a good bet that conservatives are over-optimistic about November – by then the economy will have improved and the immediate goodies in the healthcare bill will be reaching key voting blocs.

(2) So what? Legislative majorities come and go. This healthcare bill is forever. A win in November is very poor compensation for this debacle now.

So far, I think a lot of conservatives will agree with me. Now comes the hard lesson:

A huge part of the blame for today’s disaster attaches to conservatives and Republicans ourselves.

At the beginning of this process we made a strategic decision: unlike, say, Democrats in 2001 when President Bush proposed his first tax cut, we would make no deal with the administration. No negotiations, no compromise, nothing. We were going for all the marbles. This would be Obama’s Waterloo – just as healthcare was Clinton’s in 1994.

Only, the hardliners overlooked a few key facts: Obama was elected with 53% of the vote, not Clinton’s 42%. The liberal block within the Democratic congressional caucus is bigger and stronger than it was in 1993-94. And of course the Democrats also remember their history,and also remember the consequences of their 1994 failure.

The tea party people have been saying their opposition has nothing to do with racism. I've thought differently all along. But what happened today in Washington, I think bears out my worst fears, that racism is at the core of the opposition to health care reform, and any other major changes President Obama has on his agenda.

"Rep. Andre Carson (D-Ind.) claimed Saturday that healthcare protesters at the Capitol directed racial epithets at Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) as he walked outside.

Carson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus along with Lewis, told The Hill that protesters called Lewis the N-word.

Tea Party protesters held a rally outside the Capitol on Saturday, which included speeches by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and actor Jon Voight, and then proceeded into the halls to lobby members at the 11th hour.

I've used this video of the man with Parkinson's disease in a prior post, but on Hardball with Chris Matthews, interviewing Tim Phillips of American for Prosperity, Chris takes on one of the groups behind the tea party demonstrations. This is quite possibly the most callous display I've ever seen, a tea bagger throwing money at the man on the ground telling him there's nothing free "in this party of town."

Phillips doesn't condone what a couple of men did in the video, but tries to make the case that the man with Parkinson's disease should join the tea party movement because with the "government takeover" of health care he may not be deemed worth treating.

I was amused on Monday when apparently David Law and the Oakland County Republican Party finally realized that their web site was down. Their web address renewal had expired on March 9, but it wasn't until Monday, March 15, someone realized that their web site was down and directing visitors to one of those generic pages that come up when a url is expired. You'd think the party that holds itself out to be fiscally responsible would one, notice their web site was down for more than 5 hours, but also be responsible enough to put the renewal on an automatic renewal, so embarrassment like this didn't happen.

Yesterday was a great day. I drove to Flint to join a group of health care activists and we visited with Congressman Kildee's staff. Tiffany Flynn informed us that Congressman Kildee is NOT one of the so-called Stupak 12 and he will vote for health care reform in the House.

I also had an interesting encounter with a little 7 or 8 year old boy outside Kildee's office. He seemed to have all the answers on health care.

Tiffany Flynn, Congressman Kildee's district rep, brought us up to date on the health care bill and told us that there will most likely be a vote in the House next week before Easter break and a bill could be on the President's desk before Easter. It looks like the public option is making a comeback too. Senator Bernie Sanders intends to introduce a public option amendment and he says there are 53 votes for it, which if true would mean it would pass in reconciliation.

Michael Moore, appeared on The Rachel Maddow Show last night urging Democrats in Congress to do something. Take a stand! Moore brought up when Republicans come to town, they drive down the street in the Hummer and knock over anyone that gets in their way. The Democrats could learn a lesson from the Republicans in this respect. It's time to stand up for the American people, Democrats. Republicans are not going to vote with us, no matter what. All they want to do is destroy President Obama, hoping they can improve their chances to regain power in November.

I don't agree, but this is an interesting article on the psychology of the tea partiers. This is an article from Psychology Today.

These tea-party folks seem to most liberals-well, to most of us who live in the "reality community," or, as I like to call it, "reality"-like crazy fuckers.

As a recent NY Times article reports, this hodgepodge of people and groups spout frankly paranoid beliefs as received wisdom, e.g. the Federal Reserve is our enemy and should be abolished, citizens should stock up on ammo, gold, and survival food in anticipation of an impending Civil War, states should "nullify" federal laws and even secede, medical records are being shipped to federal bureaucrats, the Army is seeking "Internment/Resettlement" specialists, Obama is trying to create crises in order to destroy the economy, convert Interpol into his personal police force, and create a New World Order. Conspiracy theories involving shadowy elites like the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations have resurfaced. Self-defense and armed resistance are frequently called for. Racist stereotypes, innuendo, and hostility run rampant. The Constitution is its sacred text and Glenn Beck its most beloved prophet. They don't usually wear aluminum hats but perhaps they should.

I hate these folks but I also understand them. And, well, uh, I also empathize with them. They share the same psychology as the paranoid patients I treat every day. The only difference is that the paranoid beliefs of the tea-party movement are political while those in my consulting room are of a more personal nature.

The causes and dynamics, however, are the same. And so just as I have empathy for my patients, I have come to have empathy for the tea-party'ers, even as I despise their influence and work hard to defeat their ideology. It's crucial that progressives do likewise because if we don't understand the ways that decent, god-fearing, and victimized people can come to espouse such a dangerous ideology, we won't be able to fight them effectively.

I treat people who are paranoid all the time. Sometimes they're only mildly paranoid. For example, someone I treat can't tolerate blame of any kind, can't take any responsibility for failures, and can't really be optimistic about the potential goodness in others. It's always someone else's fault. Other times, they're more severely paranoid. A patient I saw spun tale after tale of slights, interpreted innocuous events as malignant, saw conspiracies everywhere, and always imputed malevolence to others' motives. The most extreme cases can be found in the delusions of schizophrenics.

There isn't one cause of paranoia. Tomes have been written about it. Individual variations and exceptions abound. A few generalizations, however, can be made. Paranoid people are trying their best to make sense of and mitigate feelings of helplessness and worthlessness. Their beliefs are attempts to solve a profound problem, albeit in ways that distort reality.

Last week an internal document from the Republican National Committee was leaked. In the document were the Republicans' plans on how to raise money from their donors. What was not in it was even one new idea. The only way the Republicans figure they can win the election is to scare people into thinking President Obama is a Socialist, even though they don't seem to know exactly what that means. For some reason they think that will be enough to scare their low information voters into voting for Republicans, even though they haven't done one thing to help this country deal with our problems except say no to anything Democrats propose, even if they used to be for it, now they're against it because it's coming from Democrats.

Last night outside our private event in Rochester Hills, the Teabaggers held a rally along Rochester Road. Of course, the media didn't bother to come inside to hear Congressman Gary Peters address his constituents about health care. I guess the protesters were a better story.

However, what the corporate media didn't bother to report are the lies that Glenn Clark, Republican 9th Congressional District Chair, fed to the eager lapdogs at Fox News. Glenn said the Democratic health care plan was a "government takeover" of health care. That's a lie. In fact, as currently written, America's health insurance companies stand to get 30 million new customers.

Glenn also said the "health care scheme" is going to take away our health care rights and options. LIE! Come on, Glenn. Can't you tell the truth just once?

Glenn also seemed to imply that under the Democratic plan we might not be able to see specialists. LIE! Why doesn't the corporate media challenge these lies from Republicans?

Bart Stupak is WRONG!!

Bart Stupak, a Democrat, has been allying with the Republicans to try to stop the Democratic health care bill over the issue of abortion. On Saturday in Pittsfield, the three then Democratic candidates for governor of the state of Michigan answered questions about the issues for almost two hours. First they told the almost 100 Democrats gathered a little bit about themselves.

First, though, Debbie Dingell, wife of long-time Congressman John Dingell told the crowd that contrary to what all the pundits have been telling us, “this will be a great year for Democrats.” On Saturday the Michigan Democratic Party executive board decided to hold an endorsement convention on April 17. The endorsement convention will let the candidates judge where their support lies and will help those that get the endorsement of the party faithful to raise money and recruit volunteers.

Republican Congressman - "Black people were better off as slaves"

You know, I can’t believe, you know, four million slaves. This is incredible." And we’re right, we’re right. We should look back on that with criticism. It is a crushing mark on America’s soul. And yet today, half of all black children are aborted. Half of all black children are aborted. Far more of the African American community is being devastated by the policies of today than were being devastated by the policies of slavery. And I think, What does it take to get us to wake up?"

Keith Olbermann Responds to the Dallas Tea Party

Recently Keith Olbermann called out the teabaggers for the lack of ethnic diversity at their events. He asked, "where are the people of color?" One of Olbermann's special comments drew attention to the lack of African Americans, Latinos and other minorities in America. The Dallas Tea Party group even went so far as to invite Olbermann to one of their events.

What they didn't know or didn't bother to find out is that Olbermann's father has been in intensive care for six months.

Bob McDonnell, newly installed governor of Virginia recently issued an executive order that makes it legal to discriminate against people working in Virginia because of sexual orientation. This is a stunning reversal in a state that voted for President Obama in the last election.

In this same clip, Virginia state representative Bob Marshall makes the case that children with disabilities result from women who have previously had abortions.

What century do these people live in? This is the kind of crap that makes me want to pull my hair out, blatant discrimination against homosexuals, blatant lying about medical facts and all done supposedly in the name of Christianity. Whatever happened to love thy neighbor and do unto others as you would have them do unto you? Is this what modern Christians really beleive?

Tea Party Candidate Wants to Hang Her Opponent

The tea baggers deny that they encourage violence. At this campaign rally in Asotin, Washington one of the speakers made the statement that suggested one of the Senators from the state of Washington should be hung. Now, I'm for a good political contest as much as the next person, but saying your opponent should be hung is just plain wrong, especially when our country has its first African American President.

I would hope that others in the Tea Party movement would come out and denounce this despicable statement and that leaders in the Republican party will also denounce the violence that is encouraged by this idiotic person and her statement. The quote from the speaker is posted below.

"How many of you have watched the movie Lonesome Dove?," asked one speaker from the podium. "What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd? What happened to Jake when he ran with the wrong crowd. He got hung. And that's what I want to do with Patty Murray."

Competitive politics is one thing, inciting violence against one's opponent is a despicable act that needs to be called out in the strongest terms possible. I challenge my conservative readers to make their comments denouncing this king of speech.

Republican Hypocrisy At High Water Mark Over Stimulus Bill

Republicans seem to think that Americans won't notice their hypocrisy about the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. While they rail about the spending and the myth that the legislation has been a failure, when they are in their home district, and in writing, they admit that the stimulus bill is creating jobs and they request money for their districts.

You can't be for and against something at the same time and not expect to pay a price for your hypocrisy. The teabag crowd hates big government and big spending and more than 100 House Republicans have attacked the stimulus bill while making positive statements about the stimulus to the voters at home. So will the Republican hypocrites pay a price for their hypocrisy in November?

The stimulus bill has worked by all reasonable measures. Can we and must we do more? Yes.

Have You Noticed The Lack of Minorities at Tea Parties?

I have. When ever they show crowd shots of a tea party gathering, whether it's local or a national gathering on the Mall in D.C. there is a definite lack of minorities in the crowds. If you ask the tea partiers they will deny being racist. Then there was the speech of former Congressman Tom Tancredo at the Tea Party Nation recently in Nashville, where Tancredo called for a return of Jim Crowe laws. But they're not racists, are they? Last night on Countdown, Keith Olbermann addressed this issue. I wonder if they have to pay some African Americans to show up to these "friendly" meetings. MEDEFCO has invited all the Michgian gubernatorial candidates to speak. Sounds like something even I should be welcome to attend.

A local tea party group, MEDEFCO will be holding a meeting on Tuesday, February 23 at Barrister Gardens 24225 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores at 7 p.m.

Apparently I'm not welcome, according to Brian Pannebecker, one of the leaders of MEDEFCO.

The MEDEFCO meeting is a private monthly meeting of supporters of our Constitution who want to take our government back.

Anti-Tea Party protesters and agitators will NOT be allowed inside to disrupt the meeting, especially "low-life lurkers" like Bruce Fealk.
The St.Clair Shores Police will be more than happy to help us prevent disturbances from left-wing wackos like Fealk and his buddys.

Jon Stewart Makes Republicans look Foolish on Health Care

This is brilliant. The RNC held their annual meeting in Hawaii, where the state health care program mandates employees that work over 20 hours a week must provide health care. Nearly everyone is covered. Even Rush Limbaugh admitted he got the best care available anywhere in the world. When John Oliver talks to attendees of the RNC annual meeting and makes them aware that Hawaii offers universal care, they seem to be flabbergasted. This piece of satire makes fools the Republicans and their position on health care.

Republican Congressman, Paul Ryan, is supposed to be a serious policy wonk for the Republican party. But what is his big idea? He wants to kill Social Security and Medicare? Why? Because Nazis are liberals and liberals are Nazis. Seriously. George W. Bush tried this scheme during his administration and it thankfully died a pretty quick death, just like millions of senior citizens would if these two programs were eliminated. Imagine what would have happened during the collapse of the stock market if millions of senior citizens had their Social Security invested in the stock market.

This is one of the worst ideas ever by the Republican party, but because they are ideologues, it keeps coming up. 96% of senior citizens on Medicare like it. I don't know the number for Social Security, but there's a reason Social Security is considered the third rail in political circles.

Man-Made Climate Change for Dummies

There is a big push to try to get the story out through conservative blogs and media, primarily Fox "News" that man-made climate change is a hoax. They're trying to make the case that because of the big snow storms on the east coast that climate change can't be real because it's cold and it's snowing more than usual. This is a completely ridiculous argument. NASA recently announced a study that shows that 2009 was the second warmest year in history.

But conservatives want to try to use their typical short-term thinking to make Americans believe because it's cold and snowing in winter, climate change is a hoax. They are the ones that are being taken for a ride though, in some cases by scientists that have been bribed by the oil companies, to try to refute the irrefutable. Rachel Maddow last night put it in terms I hope even conservatives can understand.

Republican hypocrisy called out on a grand scale

I've thought this for a long time. Republicans in Congress are really, really, really, big hypocrites. They claim they are for fiscal responsibility, but while George W. Bush was in office, they funded two wars without paying for it. They voted in a massive tax cut for the wealthiest Americans, that threatens to bankrupt the country. They voted for Medicare Part D, but didn't pay for it.

Then when President Obama took over, all of a sudden, apparently they are against tax cuts for middle-class Americans. President Obama and the Congressional Democrats want to enact health care reform and even though it's paid for and Americans actually want a better health care plan than is currently under consideration, they want to kill it and start over.

But last night took the cake. Rachel Maddow ran through the list of Republicans that are out in their state and districts taking credit for stimulus projects, while having voted against and publicly denounced the stimulus bill that passed within weeks of President Obama being sworn in.

Ed Schultz had Mark Zandi, an economist who was advising John McCain during the campaign on his show, and Zandi said that the recession basically ended when the stimulus bill kicked in.
So, my question is, how can reason able people disagree about the fact that President Obama's economic policies have brought America from the brink of a second Great Depression and have the country headed in the right direction economically? Reasonable people can't disagree, but then there are the people that consider themselves part of the tea party movement.

Teabaggers Really are Racists

Former Congressman, Tom Tancredo, spoke last weekend at the Tea Party Nation in Nashville last weekend. About 600 teabaggers gathered at the Grand Ole Opry hotel. Tancredo put forth the idea that we should return to the days of literacy tests in order to be able to vote. These laws were called Jim Crowe laws when they were used to keep African Americans from voting.

Teabaggers will try to tell you that their opposition to President Obama is not about racism. They are lying. Judging by the applause Tancredo drew by calling for the return of Jim Crowe laws make it impossible to say that the Tea Party is not a group of blatant racists.

While most polls on the internet that are labeled as "unscientific" usually fade into obscurity even before all the votes are tallied, every now and then one becomes a meme.
Thursday morning, a Wonkette blog post titled "Fox News Poll: Yes, We Are Insanely Racist Crazy People" made it onto Digg's recommended list.

In the coming days Republicans will be forced to vote on a measure in favor of keeping Social Security just the way it is and vowing to fix its fiscal issues. My guess is that every Republican in the House will vote against the measure. God help them when they go to town hall meetings with angry seniors.

Paul Ryan, the Republicans chief budget writer, has put forth a plan that is even more radical than the play Bush put forward in 2005, when he thought he had all kinds of political capital.

Whereas Social Security has successfully and efficiently provided the foundation for Americans' retirement security for generations and should be preserved for generations
to come;

Whereas for 6 in 10 seniors, Social Security provides the majority of their retirement income, and Social Security provides nearly all of the income received by four out of ten widows and other non-married seniors;

Whereas Social Security's essential protections for workers and their families cannot be matched by private savings, which are a complement to, but not a substitute for, Social
Security's guaranteed benefits;

Whereas, as one such protection, Social Security provides a guaranteed benefit that one can never outlive, and unlike private savings or investments, is not subject to the ups
and downs of the stock market;

Whereas, as another such protection, Social Security benefits are indexed to inflation to maintain purchasing power over time, which is particularly important for women because
they live longer on average than men, and the impact of inflation compounds over time;

Whereas, as another such protection, Social Security provides family benefits, protecting not only the worker but dependent children and the surviving spouse;

Whereas, as another such protection, Social Security not only provides a secure foundation of retirement, but it provides essential income to workers with severe disabilities and to survivors, representing, for a typical young family, a $413,000 disability insurance policy and a $430,000

Whereas, as another such protection, Social Security's progressive benefit formula ensures that those with the least opportunity to make supplemental provision for retirement receive the greatest degree of protection from Social Security;

Whereas, for 75 years, Social Security has never been a day late or a dollar short;

Whereas the American people made clear in 2005 that they did not seek severe change in Social Security when they resoundingly rejected President Bush's attempt to privatize
Social Security in favor of preserving a secure, guaranteed foundation of retirement income free from the risks and losses of the stock market;

Whereas the current minority party plan for Social Security is even more extreme than the plan they advanced in 2005: (1) it cuts guaranteed Social Security retirement and survivor benefits for all workers, whether or not they wish to have a private account; (2) it diverts trillions from the Trust Fund into private accounts--eventually, four out of every ten dollars of Trust Fund contributions would be diverted to private accounts--threatening the ability of the Trust Funds to pay benefits to today's seniors; (3) it increases Federal borrowing by $4,100,000,000,000; and (4) it subjects workers' basic retirement security to market volatility and the risk of losses; and

Whereas privatizing Social Security means benefit cuts, diversion of Trust Fund resources, subjecting individuals to market risk and losses, and increasing federal borrowing by trillions of dollars: Now, therefore, be it

Apparently they were protesting all manner of taxes and spending and they generally believe government just isn't run very well. If you don't think the rhetoric of the Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh's of the world are affecting public opinion in this country, at least among their viewers and listeners, this poll should convince you that Beck, Limbaugh and other conservatives on the public airwaves are indeed dangerous to our democracy.

# 39 percent of Republicans believe Obama should be impeached, 29 percent are not sure, 32 percent said he should not be voted out of office.

# 36 percent of Republicans believe Obama was not born in the United States, 22 percent are not sure, 42 percent think he is a natural citizen.

# 31 percent of Republicans believe Obama is a "Racist who hates White people" -- the description once adopted by Fox News's Glenn Beck. 33 percent were not sure, and 36 percent said he was not a racist.

# 63 percent of Republicans think Obama is a socialist, 16 percent are not sure, 21 percent say he is not

# 24 percent of Republicans believe Obama wants "the terrorists to win," 33 percent aren't sure, 43 percent said he did not want the terrorist to win.

Republicans Vote Against Their Own Legislation

There is something really astounding going on in Washington. Here's an example. The Republicans proposed a deficit reduction commission. Six Republicans co-sponsored it. President Obama embraced it. When it came time for a vote on the legislation, all six Republicans that had co-sponsored the bill voted against it.

How can President Obama even talk about bipartisanship when Republicans vote against legislation they proposed and co-sponsored?

The Democrats are trying to pass financial reform and get our money back from the big banks. Who could be against that, right, especially after the big banks basically opened gambling casinos and went bankrupt with their customers' money.

Now they don't want any regulation to try to keep it from happening again. And conservatives and teabaggers seem to want to keep the Democrats from passing legislation that the Democrats are proposing. Republicans are being their typical obstructionist selves. They talk about fiscal responsibility, but when it comes to doing anything, they walk away. Worse yet, they try to blame Democrats for the lack of action.

Here's an ad by an outside group that is calling the big banks and Republicans out for their lack of cooperation.

Roger Ailes Called Out Over Beck Incitement

Roger Ailes, of Fox News, made a mistake yesterday, and he was exposed for the lying ideologue he is and the "news" station that he heads. Arianna Huffington and Paul Krugman were on the panel with him and Huffington went after Ailes on the language used on Glenn Beck's show and Ailes tried to defend Beck, whose language and theatrics are indefensible. In another exchange Ailes was called out for Fox "News" consistently broadcasting misinformation, such as in the health care reform coverage, by Paul Krugman, calling it a "government takeover" of the health care system.

Fox "News" is NOT a news organization. They are a propaganda unit for the Republican party. They need to be called out as often as possible for their misinformation and lies.

More Fiscal Hypocrisy from Republicans

It just doesn't stop, they hypocrisy of the Republican party and their representatives in Congress. Democrats put forth an amendment to reinstitute paygo rules for government spending. Any new proposed program, in other words, had to be paid for by cuts or by raising revenue. This rule was in place during the Clinton administration and Clinton left office with the government having a $200 billion surplus.

Republicans whine all the time about how we should be fiscally responsible. But the truth is, Republican presidents recently have been the biggest spenders and created the biggest budget deficits by wide margins compared to Democratic presidents.

Every single Republican in the Senate voted AGAINST the Paygo rule. You have to ask yourself, do Republicans have any credibility when it comes to the country's fiscal matters? I say no.

• 70% of speech watchers think Barack Obama shares the same priorities for the country as they do. 57% thought so before the speech.
• 59% of speech watchers think that Barack Obama has a clear plan for creating jobs. 40% thought so before the speech.

• 72% of speech watchers approve of Barack Obama's plans for dealing with government spending. 28% Disapprove.

• 56% of speech watchers think Barack Obama's economic plans will reduce the budget deficit in the long run, and 71% think they will help ordinary Americans.

Time to End the Filibuster

When Republicans were in control of the Senate they only had 55 votes. Now, though, with Democrats in charge, for some reason the Republican cry of an up or down vote has gone out the window. 70% of legislation has faced a filibuster. Essentially our Congress is dysfunctional and Republicans are obstructing virtually everything.

If our country is to move forward and address our massive problems, it's time to get rid of the filibuster and freshman Senator Tom Udall, is bringing the issue up and it's gaining momentum.

Obama Economic Policies Succeed In Spite of What the Right Says

To hear the right wing radicals tell the story, President Obama has been an utter failure. But the facts don't back them up. GDP is up, job losses are down. Unemployment is still unacceptably high, but employment always lags a recovery. So, it sounds to me like the only thing that is failing is the ability of the conservatives to tell the truth.

GM is stating they are paying back the $6.7 billion the taxpayers loaned them. The banking industry is paying back their bailouts.

That sounds like success to me. One bump in the road, President Obama is expected to announce a spending freeze tonight in the State of the Union. This is bad economic policy, in my opinion. This is what Herbert Hoover did and it lead to the Great Depression. I'm hoping all the criticism on this makes President Obama reverses course on the spending freeze.

James O'Keefe arrested by FBI for felony

Now this is a really sweet story. James O'Keefe, a conservative activist that gained fame for his video accusing ACORN of trying to assist a pimp in getting federal dollars has been arrested in New Orleans and admitted to entering a federal office under false pretenses, along with three others. They were apparently posing as telephone repairmen. We don't know yet what they were trying to do, but for the charges already brought, they face up to 10 years in prison.

Last week's Supreme Court Ruling that allows corporations to have the same rights as individuals when it comes to making campaign contributions is a historically bad ruling. However, it could be political gold for Democrats and even the Teabaggers should be on the side of the Democrats on this one, since the Supreme Court ruling takes away power and freedom from the people.

President Obama and the Congressional Democrats can't play nice with the Republicans any more. No more letting the minority control this country and what kind of legislation America gets. Democrats' new mantra should be, What Would Tom Do, (Tom DeLay). Democrats need to start leading and kicking ass and taking names.

The base is frustrated with President Obama and his conciliatory tone. He needs to fight for the things he campaigned on and give the base something to get excited about.

While the pundits are saying that the Democrats overreached with their health care plan, the internal polling shows that's not the case. Voters in Massachusetts that voted for President Obama in 2008 are frustrated that the health care bill didn't go further.

Recent polling shows that President Obama's approval rating still remains high, 56%.

Guess What? Michiganians Support Tax Increases

This is going to blow the conservatives' minds. A new study released by the Kellogg Foundation shows that a majority of Michiganians support a broad range of tax increases.

The polling found:

• Support for increasing the sales tax increased from 37 percent to 51 percent and was opposed by 9 percent after deliberations.

• Support for boosting the income tax went up from 27 percent to 45 percent, and opposed by 20 percent.

• Support for cutting business taxes increased from 40 percent to 67 percent.

• Backing for increasing the beer and wine tax was high before and after discussion, from 66 percent to 68 percent.

"The public is willing to sacrifice, willing to invest, willing to pay the cost. However they demand transparency, accountability and different results," said Anne Mosle, vice president of the Kellogg Foundation

Now, mind you, this wasn't the usual reactive poll. A group of 314 people were invited to Lansing for a weekend to engage in and participate in a discussion of the topic and the poll was taken at the end of the process.

"This was an unprecedented experiment. We put the entire state in one room under conditions where it could think" about the economic crisis, said James Fishkin, director of the Center for Deliberative Democracy at Stanford, in a teleconference with the media today.

The deliberative poll, he said, is an effort to use social science to reveal what people think when they're informed and engaged. Participants broke into discussion groups to delve into the issues, and they were given pro and con arguments to consider.

So, what does this information do to the famous right wing talking point that people are not willing to pay more taxes? I think it destroys that myth, once and for all.

12 Teabaggers Protest Auto Show

A couple dozen people finally joined the protest, but certainly not an overwhelming showing from the group that only last summer was able to bring thousands out to protest. Now, it looks like the teabaggers are having a convention and it costs $549 to attend at a fancy hotel in Nashville. Sounds like the tea parties have become a profit making venture, more than a grassroots political movement.

Rush Limbaugh, I'm sure, meant to have his declaration that the U.S. health care system was "just dandy," convey that health care reform was unnecessary. What he didn't realize, though, is that the health care system in Hawaii is among the most "liberal" in the country and goes beyond what the Senate version of health care reform does.

1. Hawaii is a shining example of progressive health care reform. In fact, Hawaii is so forward-thinking that the Senate bill excludes Hawaii from some of its provisions, because Hawaii's requirements on employers go farther than the federal legislation.

* Since 1974, Hawaii has required all employers to provide quality health care benefits to any employee who works 20 hours a week or more. Because of Hawaii's increased coverage, reports the New York Times, "hospital and insurance executives in Hawaii say they have been able to innovate efficiencies. For instance, the state's top three medical providers are adopting electronic medical records -- years ahead of most mainland counterparts."
* One reporter noted "the medical system in Hawaii is as close to socialized medicine as there is in the United States, and, much of the Democrats reform bill is based in the Hawaii system."

2. Limbaugh stayed at Queen's Medical Center, where nursing staff are represented by the Hawaii Nurses' Association (read: a labor union). The nurses at Queen's are protected by their contract, which adheres to the ANA's safe-staffing principles guaranteeing appropriate staffing levels for any patient care unit.

In fact, Hawaii has one of the greatest percentages of organized workers of any state and also had the highest percentage of organized RNs. All private-sector acute care hospital RNs are organized, with just two known exceptions. We're guessing this might have something to do with why Limbaugh found the Hawaii hospital staff's work so "confidence-inspiring."

When Limbaugh was released from Queen's Medical Center, he cheerily noted, "The treatment I received here was the best that the world has to offer."

New Mexico Teabaggers Are Now Armed at Rally

This looks like a dangerous trend, teabaggers bringing guns to tea parties. The confluence of the 1st and 2nd Amendments in New Mexico looks like a dangerous development.

"Nearly 350 right-wing protestors crowded a New Mexico town’s busiest intersection yesterday to protest President Obama’s supposed anti-gun agenda and the “government takeover of our health care system.” While the event mostly looked like any other recent right-wing rally — complete with signs reading “replace the communists in DC” and “the sky is falling! A black man is president!” — what set this protest apart was that there “were plenty of handguns and rifles displayed.”

The local Tea Party and a group called the Second Amendment Task Force (2ATF, a reference to the ATF, which enforces gun laws) encouraged people to bring guns to the event in Alamogordo, NM, in order to “put a positive light on gun ownership,” said 2ATF’s founder Dan Woodruff. While the two protests were technically separate, they were planned together for the same day in adjacent locations. Otero Tea Party Patriots coordinator Don Omey said he was “proud” of the gun-toters. “That’s what we need to turn some minds around,” Omey said. Under New Mexico law, it’s legal for anyone over the age of 19 to open-carry a holstered firearm in most public places.

And while there was no violence during the event, one protestor wearing a Tea Party shirt said his loaded gun was a “very open threat” to anyone who might “try to take over the country completely as a socialist communist [state].”

Well, the time has come, health care reform is hanging by a thread. After months of yelling and screaming, millions upon millions of dollars spent by the insurance industry and Big Pharma, barely any of the real reforms many of us hoped for is left in the current Senate version of health care reform. Joe Lieberman and a few other conservative "Democrats", Mary Landrieu and Ben Nelson have bowed to the pressure. Most Democrats, especially the liberals, worked extremely hard to make real health care reform happen, but corporate interests are on the verge of defeating real reform and handing over to the insurance companies 30 million new customers who will be forced to buy health insurance from private companies.

Where has the President been? Yes, he's had the Democrats over for coffee at the White House, but the real arm twisting, the no-more-Mr. Nice Guy attitude that was needed has been lacking, in other words, leadership. Insurance companies won't give up their cash cows without a fight.

The only way to get health care reform is to fight hard and have a take no prisoners approach to your opponents. Getting legislation like real health care reform is like war. You have to figuratively "kill the enemy." And the insurance industry and Big Pharma are the enemy of the people of the United States. Their goal is to make money, no matter what and as much as possible. In their minds, greed is good.

Keith Olbermann hit the nail head last night with his special comment. Forcing people to pay for health care and not offering a public option or a buy-in to Medicare is not the answer.

Generals always want more troops, but increasing our military footprint there will only make the Taliban stronger.

Chris Matthews Takes on Abortion With Bishop Tobin

You may have read that Providence Bishop Thomas J. Tobin has told Patrick Kennedy he will not be offered communion because of his views on abortion. Chris Matthews hae the Bishop on his show last night and there was a very interesting conversation.

What I thought was interesting was that Matthews asked the Bishop a question, basically if Tobin were in Congress, would he legislate against a woman's right to choose and outlaw abortion, period. That question the Bishop answered, yes. However, when Matthews asked what the punishment should be, the Bishop wouldn't answer that question. Since Catholics and the anti-abortion forces call abortion murder, it seems like the answer to that question is that they would be willing to put the woman that got the abortion on trial for murder, along with the doctor. But for some reason, the Bishop wouldn't go that far.

Matthews kept coming back to the question, but the Bishop would still not answer it. I've had this conversation with people that are pro-life. But they never think the answer all the way through. How many more prosecutors would we have to hire? How many courthouses would we have to build? How many more judges would have to sit on the bench?

Why do you think the Bishop wouldn't answer Chris Matthews' question on what the punishment should be for the woman that has the abortion and the doctor that performed it.

Psalm 109:8, "Let his days be few and another take his office," is the language on bumper stickers. This is in light of the fact that threats against President Obama are up 400%, basically exceeding the Secret Service's ability to keep up with them.

Keith Olberman Raises $1.7 Million for free clinics - 1000 treated in New Orleans

The first of the free clinics in states where conservative Democrats are considering joining Republicans to filibuster health care reform in the Senate took place last weekend in New Orleans. Over 1000 people saw doctors for the first time in a long time. The statistics were overwhelming. 83% of the patients were employed. 90% of the people seen had two diagnoses. 82%. had a life threatening condition, diabetes, high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease. Four people were taken directly from the clinic to a hospital because their condition was life threatening at that moment. One woman was told she had stage 4 breast cancer with tumors throughout her body. She has decided not to seek treatment. It's too late for her. She will be a statistic, one of the 45,000 who die every year for lack of adequate health care.

Last week the 9th Congressional District hosted by the 9th Congressional District. I've been worried whether Lt. Governor John Cherry was the right man for the job to beat the Republicans in 2010, basically because he's going to have to run on Governor Granholm's record, especially since we have such a high unemployment rate. I don't think much of what has happened to Michigan economy is the governor's fault, but the Republicans will sure try to pin it on her.

The Republicans have a very weak field of candidates. Mike Bouchard lost big time to Debbie Stabenow, and I doubt he can mount a strong statewide campaign. Sean Hannity Apologizes for Fox's "Inadvertent Mistake"

As if there was any doubt already that Fox "News" makes stuff up and that they are NOT journalists, Sean Hannity on his show last night apologized to his audience and admitted that Jon Stewart was right, that Fox used footage from the 9/12 rally in Washington D.C. when talking about Michelle Bachman's "press conference" at the Capitol last week against health care reform. The 9/12 rally had about 60-70,000 people and the "press conference" had about 3-4,000 people, although Republican sources used numbers as high as 1.2 million for Bachman's "press conference" and numbers as high as 1-2 million were used when talking about the 9/12 rally. Those numbers were both gross exaggerations.

In other news, CNN personality, Lou Dobbs, resigned from CNN and I'm sure will soon show up on Fox "News" where he belongs with all the other xenophobes.
